Bank of the West Celebrates 6th Annual Philanthropy Awards

Bank of the West proudly announced the winners of its sixth annual Philanthropy Awards, awarding $100,000 each to Lava Mae and Barrio Logan College Institute. Through these awards, the Bank honors organizations that are making strides to improve the quality of life for individuals and families. Since 2010, the Bank has awarded more than $1 million in grants through its Philanthropy Awards.

By incorporating philanthropy into how we conduct business, we collaborate with more than 800 nonprofit organizations addressing vital issues and enhancing the quality of life in the communities where we live and work.”

Nonprofit organizations were recognized in two categories: Community Impact and Innovation

The Community Impact Award was granted to Barrio Logan College Institute. The Institute offers college-preparatory programs for disadvantaged students and their families, starting in elementary school and continuing through college graduation. Since its founding, the organization’s efforts have enabled 117 students to make their college dreams a reality.

Lava Mae received the Innovation Award for its efforts to provide San Francisco’s homeless population with basic sanitation needs. Using a decommissioned Muni bus to create a mobile shower facility, Lava Mae provided more than 3,500 showers to 1,200 people in its first year of operation.
