BBVA Compass is taking its relationship with EverFi — the nation’s leading education technology company focused on teaching, assessing and certifying K-12 and college students— to the next level, expanding to additional markets and adding more classrooms. Introducing its BBVA Compass Financial Scholars program to classrooms in seven markets across the Sunbelt, the program reached nearly 12,000 students in Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio, Birmingham, Ala., McAllen, Texas, and Jacksonville, Fla., in its first full calendar year.
“We are very pleased with the considerable impact this program has made on students in our communities in a relatively short time,” said Reymundo Ocañas, BBVA Compass’ director of Corporate Responsibility and Reputation. “Both teachers and students have told us that EverFi’s online platform is easy to use and makes learning about financial education fun and engaging.”
Plans for 2014 include maintaining the strong foundation of last year’s program while expanding into new markets in Alabama, Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. Additionally, BBVA Compass will partner with a small group of nonprofits to pilot EverFi’s new program for adults, EverFi@Work, an interactive learning experience that will help individuals manage their financial futures and introduce them to the tools needed to thrive in today’s economy.
“We are excited to continue this relationship and look forward to extending these valuable financial lessons to an even larger audience in 2014,” Ocañas said. “Our goal is to reach 25,000 students and 15,000 low- to moderate-income adults in 25 of our markets over the course of this year.”
Congratulations BBVA Compass!
