BBVA Compass Launches Week of Service Initiative in 20 Markets

BBVA Compass volunteers, including BBVA Group CFO Jaime Sáenz de Tejada, taught financial education to more than 450 students in kindergarten through fifth grade at The Rusk School in Houston during the bank’s week of service.

During BBVA Compass’ week of service in September, more than 1,200 employees taught financial skills to children, held workshops on small business and affordable housing, and offered their professional expertise to community development organizations.

The initiative marked the first of its kind at the bank and was designed to meet the diverse needs of the communities BBVA Compass serves. These efforts added up to more than 6,800 employee volunteer hours — not including hours used for travel, prep time, and other related activities.

“The enthusiastic response from employees during the week of service perfectly captures the BBVA Compass spirit of building a better future for people,” said BBVA Compass Director of Corporate Responsibility and Reputation Reymundo Ocañas.

The bank illustrated its commitment to volunteering earlier this year by allotting each employee eight hours of paid time off to use toward community service. That allotment will increase to 16 hours in 2015.
