Time zones and vacations don’t stop employees from participating in race day

The Cat Financial office in Singapore organized a group run on the same day of the Nashville Marathon.

After months of training and fundraising, members of the Cat Financial running team laced up their shoes on April 25 to run the Country Music Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital under the team name, “Running for Children, Bulldozing for a Cure.”

In total, 168 Caterpillar employees, friends and family members participated in the Nashville races, with several other global offices – Singapore, Luxembourg, France, China, Australia, Brazil and Solihull – organizing teams for races and group runs in their respective countries. Other employees supported the cause by purchasing team T-shirts and committing to run, walk or exercise in the spirit of the event. One employee, who had originally planned to run the Half Marathon, was out of town on race day, but donned a mock bib and hit the sidewalk for 13.1 miles!

Even runners who weren't able to make the race, ran with the team “in spirit.”

The team, which began fundraising for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in January, raised $25,935, almost $11,000 over its initial goal. The group worked together to organize several events to help contribute to the cause, including a happy hour, karaoke competition and songwriters’ night at a local music venue.

Cat Financial Credit Analyst Cheri Plunkett, who served as team captain, was overwhelmed by the support employees showed for St. Jude. “This has been an incredible journey, and we are proud of the footprint that FPD has made in the effort to find a cure,” she said.

Congratulations to Cat Financial for crossing the finish line for St. Jude!
