First Niagara is committed to making a difference in the communities it serves. The company’s signature youth program is “Mentoring Matters.” Through our partnerships with quality mentoring programs across the Northeast in 2014, First Niagara was able to touch the lives of nearly 40-thousand young people through the $1 million awarded in grants to support mentoring organizations. The company’s financial commitment is further enhanced by First Niagara team members who give their time and talent to help serve as positive role models to young people.

“Mentoring is critically important to helping young people both academically and personally. The positive effect on students’ attendance and academic performance, as well as on children’s self-esteem and decision making skills is proven” said Gary Crosby, President and CEO of First Niagara. “Through this partnership approach, we’re able to support the most respected and innovative mentoring organizations in the communities where our customers and team members live and work.”

Elementary students come to the regional offices twice a month to spend time with their First Niagara mentors.

First Niagara is continually embracing initiatives which directly empower our youth to thrive and enhance their capacities. The organization believes that equipping children with the skill-set they need to grow and prosper is one of the finest investments that can be made.

Since its inception in 2007, our Mentoring Matters program has provided more than $6.25 million to innovative mentoring program providers serving young adults in need throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Congratulations First Niagara!
