Ever since LPL Financial advisor Alex Karlinski successfully organized a charity clothing drive over the holidays, she’s been looking for more ways to give back to her community year-round. It started with the Focus on Women forum, an annual collaboration of LPL’s female advisors. Learning about her counterparts’ professional journeys motivated Alex, but it was Sylvia McKinney – the president and founder of San Diego’s Dress for Success chapter – who struck a particularly strong chord with her. “Sylvia talked about how she benefitted from Dress for Success’ services, and it inspired me to want to get involved,” said Alex. Dress for Success is an international non-profit that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools to help women thrive.
To enable female advisors to help support other women striving toward independence and developing themselves professionally, LPL Financial hosted an accessories drive during its 2013 Focus on Women Forum. Attendees donated scarves, purses, and other items and learned more about getting involved with Dress for Success. LPL Financial helped Alex connect with the Dress for Success chapter in her area, and AK Financial Group organized its own drive. The team was pleasantly surprised at the amount of donations they received in just a three-week period. Alex is now thinking about ways her firm can serve their community throughout the rest of the year. “We’re exploring options like a beach clean-up day or another fun activity that could involve our clients as well,” she said.
Congratulations LPL Financial!
