Mutual of Omaha associates have built a legacy of giving back. The response to the company’s National Month of Caring, an annual effort each September that encouraged employees to volunteer during a work day, had achieved amazing participation levels.

This year, the company announced it would build upon National Month of Caring to offer employees coordinated volunteer opportunities year-round.

“The change allows associates to take part in a volunteer opportunity that is meaningful to them – at any time of the year,” said Bill Davis Community Affairs coordinator at Mutual of Omaha.

Kicking off the company’s first initiative this year was a partnership with the Food Bank for the Heartland’s Kids Cruisin’ Kitchen, a mobile kitchen that serves free, nutritious meals to kids in need throughout Omaha, where the company’s headquarters is located.

Mutual of Omaha committed 200 volunteers to volunteer between June 2 and August 8.

“Our associates filled these volunteer slots quickly. We even had a waiting list of volunteers,” Davis said.

During this time, volunteers served:

  • 23,083 meals to children 18 and under
  • More than 2,000 second helpings
  • 1,899 meals to parents who accompanied children

The company is preparing a number of company-coordinated volunteer opportunities that employees can participate in during the holidays. Associates can also participate in a number of company-sanctioned opportunities, which have been approved with partner organizations, but require additional coordination.

Each year, Mutual of Omaha associates volunteer in excess of 5,500 hours to organizations in communities across the country.

Congratulations Mutual Of Omaha!
