A unique charity created to support public school teachers, DonorsChoose.org provides educators with an online venue to submit classroom requests for much-needed school supplies. The grant provided 50 percent of the cost for classroom projects throughout Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

The “Uniting Cash for Classrooms” campaign kicked off in recognition of American Education Week combining the foundation’s 50 percent contribution with public donations until projects reached 100 percent funding completion. More than 400 classroom projects were funded, making a difference in the lives of over 25,000 students at nearly 200 schools throughout the bank’s footprint.

“The campaign provided a way for us to support and thank teachers who are working hard to ensure our children receive a quality education,” said Karen Galbo, Director of the People’s United Community Foundation. “We thank the community for joining us in our efforts to give teachers the resources they need.”

Since 2010, the People’s United Community Foundation partnership with DonorsChoose.org has funded close to 1,500 classroom projects totaling $350,000 and affecting 92,000 students.

“We’re so grateful for the continued support of People’s United Community Foundation,” said Charles Best, founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org. “Their generosity has helped us fulfill the classroom dreams of so many teachers and students.”

Congratulations People’s United!
