The first five years of life are a magical time, when the world is full of wonder and possibilities. It’s also a time of opportunity, when young minds begin absorbing knowledge that forms the basis for all learning.
That’s why The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. created PNC Grow Up Great and PNC Crezca con Éxito, a $350 million program dedicated to helping prepare America’s youngest learners for great things in school –- and life.
For every dollar spent on high-quality early education, society gains as much as $16 in long-term savings. Research has proven that children who participate in high quality preschool programs are far more likely to experience greater educational achievements, strive toward higher vocational aspirations and contribute to society in adulthood.
Vocabulary is especially important to a child’s development in underserved areas, where children trail behind their peers in learning new words. “Spread the Word” is a vocabulary-building initiative in Atlanta, Georgia, one of 10 cities PNC selected for a $10.75 million pilot program to raise awareness and improve vocabulary. The two-year effort will reach initially 6,000 students and their families.
PNC employees support this and other Grow Up Great initiatives, which last year received more than 84,000 volunteer hours and approximately 92,000 employee-donated items for students’ personal and school use.
“We are so grateful for PNC’s continued support of early learning,” said Jane Turner, executive director of The Children’s Museum of Atlanta. “We are excited to partner with The Atlanta Speech School to share the importance of vocabulary building with families in the metro Atlanta community.”
Congratulations The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc.!
