Regions Bank associates are helping students from financially challenged families in Tennessee achieve their dreams of going to college. Two intertwined and innovative programs make it possible: Tennessee Promise, a statewide scholarship providing two years of tuition-free attendance at community or technical colleges, and tnAchieves, a mentoring program that pairs volunteers with eligible high school students to provide individual guidance while helping them become college ready.

During the 2014-2015 school year, 53 Regions associates served as tnAchieves mentors in Tennessee. Recruiters at the bank hope to double that number for the 2015-2016 school year, with associates and students interacting in person, by phone, and through email. They’ll use Regions-branded Financial Fundamentals and Insights by Regions materials, which provide valuable information, seminars, tips, and tools such as free online calculators, all designed to help people make better financial decisions.

Regions associate Ramon Rodriguez is among 53 Regions staffers who volunteered to participate in the tnAchieves program as mentors during the 2014-2015 school year. The bank’s goal is to double that number this school year.

“This combination of scholarships and mentors is a game-changer for our state as we focus on increased post-secondary attainment and economic viability,” says tnAchieves Executive Director Krissy DeAlejandro. “It’s also an opportunity for students to feel that someone really has their backs when it comes to their future.”

Regions associate Kevin Crateau is among 53 Regions staffers who volunteered to participate in the tnAchieves program as mentors during the 2014-2015 school year. The bank’s goal is to double that number this school year.

She adds that people at companies like Regions get involved because they see a chance to push the community forward, and their excitement becomes contagious. “Mentors share their stories with others,” Krissy says, “and before you know it we have more volunteers mentoring and more corporate support that truly touches these students’ lives.”

Congratulations Regions!
