Regions Bank maintains an ongoing relationship with Academy Prep Centers for Education, two charter schools run by a nonprofit organization in urban areas of Tampa and St. Petersburg, Florida. These college-preparatory middle schools — whose mission is to inspire and empower students from low-income families to become future community leaders — offer life-changing learning opportunities for economically disadvantaged youths who are willing to work hard. The rigorous program requires student attendance up to 11 hours a day, six days a week, 11 months a year.
Regions contributions cover tuition for several Academy Prep students. The bank organizes collection drives to gather school supplies at as many as 62 Regions branches in West Florida, then donates the supplies to the two schools. Bank associates serve as long-term mentors to students, visiting frequently to teach them about managing money, budgeting for real-life expenses, and making sound financial decisions. Teams of bankers meet students at the start of their 5th grade year and follow their progress through graduation at the end of their 8th grade year, building strong relationships over time and watching financial lessons take hold.
At the end of each school year, the students make a formal presentation about what they have learned through their continuing relationship with these banking professionals. In such presentations, it quickly becomes clear that the students recognize and appreciate how the Regions associates show such a keen interest in helping them advance their education and their overall development as valued members of the community.
Congratulations Regions Financial Corporation!
