When you think of training development in a corporation, you usually think of training for employees, leaders and sales representatives. SunTrust takes it a step further – and from a different perspective – by providing training for children who will one day grow up to have families and financial obligations of their own.
In support of the company’s purpose to Light the Way to Financial Well-Being, SunTrust offers a series of financial education courses that its teammates can use when volunteering. In fact, the series just won a Silver 2014 Brandon Hall Group Excellence Award — the pre-eminent HCM research and analyst organization focused on Learning, Leadership Development, Talent Management and Acquisition and Workforce Management.
SunTrust teammates have leveraged these award-winning modules in schools across their footprint, helping students develop smart money habits, set financial goals and learn to save for a home. Since the start of the year, SunTrust teammates also have spent 128,000 hours volunteering.
The company’s focus on financial well-being doesn’t stop there. This year, donations from The SunTrust Foundation have already totaled $1.5 million to help organizations advance financial well-being, plus $900,000 to promote financial education.
“Our commitment to our Purpose is one of the primary reasons our teammates are so passionate about working for our company,” said Jeff VanDeVelde, SunTrust’s Financial Well-Being Executive. “Whether it’s through training, volunteerism, donations or the time spent getting to know our clients, advancing financial well-being is one of the best ways we can make an impact.”
