SunTrust teammates demonstrate their commitment to financial well-being by working on Columbus Day to help those impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

What makes SunTrust teammates among the best in the industry? For starters, it’s how hard they work to make sure their clients feel financial confidence in the midst of adversity. Case in point: Columbus Day, a bank holiday for many, but not for dedicated SunTrust teammates in or around certain areas impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

SunTrust opened select branches in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina on Columbus Day to give clients access to their funds and accept donations on behalf of American Red Cross.

“Our response to Hurricane Matthew was a reflection of our purpose in action,” said CEO Bill Rogers. “When the hurricane hit our coastal markets, our crisis teams worked 24/7. I was on a call when it was said, ‘If we are a purpose-driven company, how can we be closed on Monday when our clients and communities need us most?’ So they made the decision to open as many branches as possible in affected areas. That didn’t come from management, it came from the team.”

The SunTrust Foundation also donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross to support disaster relief efforts for those impacted by the hurricane’s devastation.

“The widespread flooding and powerful winds caused severe hardship and displaced thousands in the region,” said David Fuller, president of the SunTrust Foundation. “As part of our commitment to the communities we serve, SunTrust is providing these relief efforts to help ensure our neighbors receive the assistance they need.”

Congratulations SunTrust Banks, Inc.!
