Synovus 125th Anniversary Community Projects Impact More Than 100 Agencies!

During the month of October 2013, Synovus celebrated 125 years as a banking organization by giving back to the community with its “125 Little Ways to Make A Big Difference” event. This project was part of Synovus’ community outreach program called REACH (Recognizing and Encouraging an Atmosphere of Community and of Hope).

NBSC North Coastal Region collected 3,396 items for Back Pack Buddies. Back Pack Buddies provides weekend meals/snacks for children and local schools.

Synovus team members partnered with more than 100 community groups and agencies across the company’s five-state footprint.

Synovus Regional Credit and Loan Review collected food items for Columbus Bank and Trust Company’s Partner-in-Education, South Columbus Elementary. The items collected are sent home with students each Friday, allowing them to have extra food over the weekend.

Team members donated hundreds of hours on projects that included running and walking for the American Cancer Society, building Habitat for Humanity homes, teaching Junior Achievement classes, and landscaping at schools and children’s homes.

Citizens First Bank collected 250 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls.  Soles4Souls is a global not-for-profit institution dedicated to fighting the devastating impact and perpetuation of poverty. The organization collects new and used shoes and clothes and distributes them via direct donations to people in need and to programs designed to create jobs in poor and disadvantaged communities.

In addition to the hands-on projects, donations included:

•$6,400 in monetary contributions

•More than 4,600 non-perishable food items for food banks and shelters

•More than 1,750 children’s books

•More than 450 school supply items for after-school programs

•More than 400 pairs of socks to shelters

•210 pints of blood for the Red Cross

•More than 250 pairs of shoes for Soles4Souls Program

•125 coats for kids

First Commercial Bank of Huntsville team members collected hundreds of items that were delivered to active duty soldiers deployed in Afghanistan. Items included socks, wipes, gum, razors, and travel toiletries.  Because the packages were scheduled to be delivered near the holidays, the team also included fun items such as Frisbees, soccer balls, footballs, and more.
