Providing opportunities for career exploration is an important part of The PrivateBank mission of seeking to create stronger, more stable communities. The PrivateBank partners with EPIC Academy Charter School and its “Intensives” program to help area students. EPIC Academy Charter School is located in South Chicago and was founded and established as a collaboration of five veteran teachers who believe elevated education in Chicago’s underprivileged neighborhoods is achievable.

EPIC Academy has had success in getting students to not only to perform at their appropriate level, but to achieve a 100% acceptance rate into colleges since 2013. Part of their rigorous academics includes a program called “Intensives”, a one week long class guided by EPIC teachers who prepare courses and design interactions between students and mentors. The “Intensives” introduce students to successful adults who are passionate about their career and demonstrate to students what it means to be professional and build one’s network.

The PrivateBank welcomed EPIC students for their end of semester “Intensives” program. Nine employees of The PrivateBank met with students, and presented their backgrounds, jobs roles, views of professionalism and involvement with community development. The students then were charged with working together to create a business that would help their community. The group returned at the end of that week to present their business plan to four of The PrivateBank volunteers. Both students and members of the bank team enjoyed the experience and were excited about the possibilities.

Congratulations The PrivateBank!
