Tempe office donates more than 50,134 bottles of water to help homeless
TSYS team members in Tempe, Ariz. collected the equivalent of 50,134 bottles of water during the hot summer months for the St. Vincent de Paul Water Drive, which provides bottled water to the homeless in central and northern Arizona.
With summer temperatures in the Phoenix, Ariz. area ranging anywhere between 100 and 120 degrees, not having enough water to drink can be deadly. In 2014, more than 1,400 Arizonans went to an emergency room with heat sickness, and 2013 there were 101 deaths from overexposure to heat.
“Obviously, this is a cause near and dear to our hearts, and as a result the water drive has become one of our biggest events. It’s very collaborative, with contributions coming in from every department,” stated the Heart of TSYS Tempe Committee
The Heart of TSYS Committee organizes the annual water drive. The 2016 drive more than doubled the results of the 2015 drive. The Heart of TSYS is a concept that represents everything TSYS team members do to give back to their communities. Tempe’s committee has representation from many departments and management levels, so skillsets, contributions and involvement is across the board. The committee focuses on a variety of projects surrounding fundraising efforts and bringing community awareness, in support of causes geared towards the homeless, moms, veterans and children.
“There doesn’t seem to be a limit to the huge hearts of many team members here, and this makes us all very proud,” the Tempe committee stated. Other organizations that the committee has helped include Feed My Starving Children, Adopt-a-Family (Salvation Army), Maggie’s Place, 9/11 Memorial Healing Fields, Save the Family and Children First Academy and United Way community events and projects.
