People’s United Bank employees actively foster an environment of inclusion, a shared goal honoring the diversity of our communities, our customers, and our culture.
This fundamental belief in the importance of inclusion and diversity sparked the formation of the People’s United Bank Women in Leadership (WIL) program in 2015. Now, with more than 900 members from nine regional chapters across CT, NY, MA, VT, NH, and ME, participants have embraced dynamic roles as community and business leaders.
WIL-sponsored initiatives in 2016 included networking events, mentoring opportunities, speaker engagements, and volunteer activities.
Among the highlights was the variety of projects supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Our WIL Teams participated in Breast Cancer walks held in Cape Elizabeth, ME, Westport and Hartford, CT, Long Island, NY, and Brattleboro, VT. Joining the teams were several cancer survivors who shared their stories of hope and encouragement.
In the spirit of holiday giving, WIL Greater Hartford Chapter members sorted and packaged hundreds of clothing items, toiletries, and over $500 in cash and gift cards, donated by People’s United Bank employees and WIL members, to support two charitable organizations – Interval House and My Sister’s Place.
The WIL Greater Boston Chapter held a financial education lesson and branch tour with a local Girl Scouts Troop. The event was part of the WIL Financial Education Partnership Program with the Girl Scouts, implemented across the bank’s footprint. The afternoon included discussions on the importance of saving and careers in financial services.
Congratulations People’s United Bank!
